Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral?

A current referral from your general practitioner or treating specialist is generally required to receive a Medicare rebate for your orthopaedic consultation.

Please ensure your referral is current at the time of your appointment. If you are unsure, contact the practice team before your consultation.

Where available, please bring:

Having your previous imaging and treatment information available can help Dr Inglis understand your condition and determine whether any further investigations are required.

Dr Inglis will discuss your symptoms, medical history and how your condition is affecting walking, work, sleep, exercise and everyday activities. He will review your available imaging and perform a clinical assessment. Further investigations, such as additional X-rays or scans, may be arranged if required. Once the cause of your symptoms has been assessed, Dr Inglis will explain the treatment options available to you. Depending on your condition, these may include non-surgical treatment, continued monitoring or surgery. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss what you would like to achieve from treatment.

If surgery is considered appropriate, Dr Inglis will explain the proposed procedure, expected benefits and limitations, possible risks and complications, alternative treatments and expected recovery. You will also receive information about preparing for surgery, your hospital admission and rehabilitation. There is time to ask questions and consider your options before deciding whether to proceed.

Dr Inglis participates in selected no-gap arrangements for eligible privately insured patients. Eligibility depends on your health fund, level of cover, procedure and hospital arrangements. You should confirm your insurance coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs before treatment. The practice team can provide information about estimated surgical fees and assist with questions regarding hospital admission and billing.

Dr Inglis consults at locations across Adelaide and regional South Australia.

Selected regional consultations are also available for patients from the Barossa and surrounding areas.

Evening clinic appointments may be available for patients who require appointments outside standard working hours.
